Day of Awakening Celebration Sunday 6th December 2009
The Day of Awakening (Bodhi day) is recognised as the day that the Buddha attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree. It is traditional to celebrate this event all over the world.
According to legend, a passing-by young woman Sujata offered a meal of rice and milk to the Buddha upon his awakening to help him regain his strength.
As part of our NBW practice we celebrated Day of Awakening in 2009 (on 6th December) by holding a shared vegetarian meal after our normal meditation session. Twenty-five people attended.
We shall hold a similar celebration in December 2010. Watch this space.
